How to Hide Files, Folders and Full Drive on Windows 10

Windows 10 offers various excellent feature in which one of the features allows you to hide the files, folder and also a drive. One of the easiest ways to hide the files and folder is by using the File Explorer. But if you want to hide a large number of files then it would be difficult for you to hide them one by one.

How to hide Files and Folder in Windows 10 using File Explorer

Step-1: First Open File Explorer and then navigate to the file or folder which you want to hide

Step-2: Right click on the file you want to hide and then click on Properties.

Step-3: After that, a pop up will open there you have to click on the General Tab and under attributes check Hidden Option.

Step-4: Now click on the Checkbox next to Hidden option and then click Apply.

Step-5: If you want to hide a folder with the files and subfolder then select Apply Changes to this folder, subfolder, and files option.

Step-6: Click OK button to complete the process.

The hidden file will not be visible anymore once you complete these steps as by default the Windows 10 does not show the hidden files and folder.

How to Hide a Drive on Windows 10

To hide a drive onyou can use different tools such as by using the Disk Management, by removing the drive letter and you can also use the Local group Editor policy to hide the specific drive on your computer with great ease.

How to Hide a Drive Using Disk Management

The easiest way to hide a drive from file explorer is to mount the drive as a folder instead of using it as a drive letter. Now to mount  a drive as folder and make it invisible follow the steps

Step-1: Use Window Key+X button on the keyboard and then select Disk Management. 

Step-2: Now right click on the drive you want to hide and then choose the Change Drive Letter and Paths option.

Step-3: After that, a small popup will open there select the Drive Letter and then click on Remove button.

Step-4: Now again right click on the drive and select the option Change Drive Letter and Paths. 

Step-5: A small pop up will open and there click on the ADD button.

Step-6: Now click on the round button next to the Mount in the following empty NTFS folder option.

Step-7: Click on the Browse button and then navigate to the location where you want to create the mount point.

Step-8: After that click on the New Folder button and then type a suitable name for the folder.

Step-9: Select the New folder you have created and then click OK button.

Step-10: Open File Explore, Right click on the mount point and then click on Properties option.

Step-11: After that, a pop up will open there you have to click on the General Tab and under attributes check Hidden Option.

Step-12: Now to hide the drive select Apply Changes to this folder only option and then click OK button.

Now the drive will no longer appear in the file explorer once you have completed all the steps but you can still access the content of the drive by navigating the location using mount point path in the Command Prompt or in the File Explorer address bar.

You can also Undo the changes by the following steps

Step-1: Use Window Key+X button on the keyboard and then select Disk Management.

Step-2: Select the Mount point and then click on the Remove button.

Step-3: Now Click on Yes button to confirm and then right click on the drive to select the Change Drive Letter and Paths option.

Step-4: Click on ADD button and then select the option Assign the following drive letter. 

 

Step-5: Select the new letter for the drive and then click the Ok button.

How to hide a drive by removing the drive letter

Step-1: Use Window Key+X button on the keyboard and then select Disk Management

Step-2:  Now right-click on the drive you want to hide and then choose the Change Drive Letter and Paths option.

Step-3: Select the Drive Letter and then click on the Remove button right next to the change button.

Step-4: After that click on the OK button and your entire drive will be invisible to all the users.

How to Hide a Drive using Group Policy

To hide a drive onusing group policy you can use the Local Group Policy editor to hide the specific drive on your computer. But you can only restrict a limited number of the drive combination.

Step-1: Use Window Key+R button on the keyboard to open the Run command.

Step-2: Now in the Run command type gpedit.msc and then click on the OK button to open the Local Group Policy Editor

Step-3: In this, you need to browse the following path

User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Component > File Explorer

Now double click on the policy Hide these specific drives in my computer

Step-4: A pop-up will open in which you have to click on the Round button next to the Enabled option which is at the left top side.

Step-5: Now Under the Options, you can select the drive combination which you want to drive or select the Restrict all drives option from the drop down menu.

Step-6: Click the Apply button and then OK to complete the task.

After you have completed these steps the drives you have selected will be hidden from the File Explorer and t
hey will no longer appear without having to restart your computer. There is one thing you should remember that you have only remove the drive icons but you can still access the drive content by navigating the location using Command Prompt or using the drive path in the File Explorer address path.
